It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in business, or how big your business is, often we can feel overwhelmed by everything. Sometimes this can be because we over complicate things, so this is what I say, ‘Keep It Simple Stupid – KISS’.
An old friend explained it really well to me. He was a fruiterer and he said, ‘If I buy an apple from the grower at $1 and sell it for $4 and I have the usual running costs in between, then I am running a business’.

So many people think that it needs to be complicated but it doesn’t need to be. If you do, it becomes overwhelming and you can’t see the big picture when you get bogged down with all these details. If you keep it simple from the start, it will be easy to manage.
Don’t try to learn everything at once, especially at the start. I like to go for the 20 per cent rule. Try to know 20 per cent of something in order to keep moving. For example, I recently started using MailChimp and I knew nothing about it. Like any new skill, I learn what I need to do the job so that I can grasp it but not take up a lot of time on it. If you can, outsource tasks so that you can keep on top of things. You can’t do everything in your business. That isn’t why you got into it in the first place, working hours on end on everything.
So, when things get on top of you, remember to KISS in business. Stop worrying, don’t get overwhelmed and get on with the job.
